DynamoCover asks me to pay Annual RPI increase on Breakdown Cover which I have already paid in full at the beginning of the agreement, more than 6months ago.

I have looked into Agreement and Policy Details and can't see anything about it.

What is it about?

"They" send the link to pay invoice that looks similar to:
58.email.stripe.com/xxx/https:%2F%2Finvoice.stripe.com

Also unless DynamoCover database details was hacked, or my email was hacked noone should know about my affiliation with them.

Also, message headers are:
From: Dynamo Cover Limited <invoice+statements+acct_xxxxxxxxxxxx@stripe.com>
Reply-To: Dynamo Cover Limited <sales@dynamocover.com>

If that's a scam then will be useful to folks looking for this thread as I couldn't find anything in search engine.

    Good find.

Heck, how do I find out is it legal to increase fully paid fee, midterm. It isn't in my downloaded documents neither.

I have never paid annual increase on fully paid fee before.

What a ripoff, if you paid annually how can they ask for more money.
That would be like buying a car or it’s insurance and them calling you months later saying it now worth more than I sold it for give me more money.

Just because they have put a page somewhere on their web site, it doesn't mean they have any right to apply a mid-term price increase.

The Insurance Product Information Document says:
"When and how do I pay?
You pay for this insurance as a one-off payment by credit or debit card at the beginning of each annual period of cover."
There is no mention of any additional payment during the year.

If it's not in your policy documents, it's time for a formal complaint. The contact details are in the policy.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

    What a ripoff

More than that. I have just found email with insurance confirmation and attached Terms of business they sent me minutes after paying. No mention of price increase.

Then I have found new Terms of business and they are different [new one including UK RPI increase]. Meaning they have changed the ToB during contract.

    Con and time wasters.

I have quickly scanned website for contact to MSE but didn't see one. Possibly MSE would like to know about it as if my memory doesn't fail me I got this insurer from MSE blog.

Separately I would like to know is it legal. I have searched quickly for insurance price increase in the same manner and couldn't

I'll give them a chance to come back with offer, if not then I will take it to ombudsman. Other forum readers can now use topic for future reference.

The law you're looking for is the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1999/2083/contents/made

Have a read through Schedule 2.

Edit, a year later.  The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations are now obsolete, and the rules have been rolled into the Consumer Rights Act.

    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • I suggest putting in a written complaint. It's not too late even if you no longer have a policy work them. They just have me a refund. Message me for wording.

They have refused to refund me following my complaint - and they make communication so time consuming it's not worth my while chasing for £9.95. Outrageous that this company gives a quote for annual insurance, and then takes what more it likes mid term. Makes it impossible to compare premium costs when buying the policy. If this isn't illegal, it should be. I have insisted on written confirmation that they have cancelled auto-renew, and I have changed my card details (easy on Chase) to stop them helping themselves to more of my money. Plus a 1 star review on TrustPilot.
