Replacement for Sony VGN-AW11M Laptop (December 2008)

I need my laptop replaced
but I have been using this laptop, Sony VGN-AW11M, since December 2008 so I do not have a clue what would be similar. Can anyone tell me whether it is possible to get something similar and preferably with an 18.4" screen which I don't think is possible any more? I definitely would prefer a 15" screen at least, if possible.
I use my laptop for general browsing, working with documents, sometime I watch DVDs on it and sometimes I listen to music on it but I do not use it for gaming.
I would prefer the laptop to be reliable and last a few years.
The only reason I need this one replaced, although it is still working, is that it is Vista which does not get updates any more. I think at this stage I need a new laptop and get more up to date.
Is there any benefits to replacing my laptop with a tablet or can you get oa tablet with that size of a screen?!?!
I have only started researching this but I prefer to get honest recommendations.
Thanks in advance!!

Depending how tech savvy you are you could still upgrade to win 10.

... and maybe 'someone' will be along soon to advise you how to fit an SSD and perhaps extra RAM to speed it up ....

Go with Windows 10.
Swapping to an SSD takes minutes. You don't need to bother backing everything up, other than to perhaps back up your Browser favourites to a thumb drive.
Then swap the old HDD for a SSD and install Windows 10 to it.
If you are willing to do this, then I'll write up a simple guide. Did you buy this laptop directly from SONY? I seem to remember helping you with this.

An SSD upgrade would make the system quite a bit faster, and your looking at probably £30-40 for a drive and then you also need a windows 10 licence key.But your system is still slow by current standards, i would take the opertunity if buget allows to get something modern.I wouldnt buy anything less than around £400 if you want it to last a good few years.e.g

If I got a new laptop what would be the easiest way to get the things I use all the time on this laptop, Excel and Word documents, over to a new laptop if I get a new laptop?0

You don't need to be 'tech savvy' to do it. It's all very straightforward. You'll be done and dusted in thirty minutes or so...with a laptop to which you are used; only faster than it ever was before...for perhaps £50 in total.Jo4 said:
