British Gas Homecare Free Upgrade.

In May 18 I was emailed with the offer of a free upgrade from level 2 to level 4. I ignored it but two months later they applied it anyway. They said they’d contact me again before 31 Jan 19 when the free upgrade would end. I let it be as I was expecting a further email reminder by that date when I intended to revert to level 2. I completely forgot about it but have recently discovered they didn’t contact me until 14 Feb 19 with the actual contract which was due to be automatically renewed mid March. So I’ve been paying for level 4 cover without realizing it for the last three years. Yes, I should have checked the renewal contract but I feel they are at fault as they didn’t contact me by the date they said they would in the way their email implied. The wording of the free upgrade email is disingenuous. It said I’d be contacted when the free upgrade came to an end on 31 Jan which was well before the contract renewed which I interpreted as meaning a separate communication rather than just a renewal contract. I have paid £436 more than I should have less the annual increases for level 2 but British Gas have refused offer me a refund. Any thoughts please?
