TV's and digi recorders on standby?

PVR means Personal Video Recorder ... what you've described would be a PVR.

Those that use the energy saving switches that turns off devices if left on standby maybe in for a shock.  Some of them will use
more power than the devices your trying to save money on. I was given one supplied to British Gas customers and it used 8watts
where the devices on standby only used 6 watts, so it would have cost more to use the socket.

As mentioned already a lot of modern devices use very little on standby, a tiny sub 1watt led. Shower left with the light on
will use less than £1 a year for that LED or Neon bulb.

If the change is no inconvenience, who wouldn't want to save £50 a year.
E.g disabling unused features, e.g network standy/wake up.

You're right about it being 14p per day - brain not working properly that early on a Saturday morning.

Is that the type of clock that often runs on a single or pair of AA batteries and lasts several years on one set?

Try a jewel thief. You can power small low drain items for a long time on batteries that were too weak to power
the devices they were originally fitted to.

I measured the power taken by a remote control mains switch made by 'Status'. It is 0.3 watts in the off mode.

Interesting article Chickeree.

I have old gadgets but admittedly most are not on standby. A minor inconvenience.

It's all small amounts - but when I look at the constant charging I do so many of them I do wonder.

I leave my Sky box and TV on standby. I also leave the router on 24/7 and boil water in the kettle and then pour into a cup. 

I want to come down in the morning and start watching TV without having to wait for Sky Q to power up, then wait some more for it to establish an internet connection then wait even longer for the EPG to update.
