Using car while waiting for warranty repairs

Last Friday, I took delivery of a new Hyundai Tucson. Upon driving it over the weekend, I noticed that while the brakes worked fine, there was a slight vibration/grinding that could be felt through the brake pedal and clutch when coming to a stop - almost like too much feedback from the road was being transferred through the pedals.

I assumed (and hoped) this wasn't normal, so called my local Hyundai dealership on Monday morning to book it in for a look on Friday, which was the earliest they could fit it in. I've done about 80 miles in the car so far (mostly over the weekend while waiting to call them) but thought, is it best to stop using it in the time being? Other than it being an annoyance it seems to operate absolutely fine, but I wouldn't want them to state something wasn't covered by warranty because of something I'd done while using it.

I've not dealt with new car warranties before, so wondered what other people would do!

First thing I would do is get a second opinion even from a layman/friend and see what they think.  I would probably keep on driving it if I had to or use another car if an option.

Just a thought have you done a couple of hard stops on the brakes, the discs might be a little rusty?  Check the brake and clutch fluid levels?
  • If it rolls freely with the parking brake off and stops normally when you press the brake pedal I wouldn't worry.

After a drive check the wheels hubs for any unusual heat if you suspect a binding brake.

Check the tyre pressures, I have had cars delivered with ridiculously incorrect pressures.

Thanks both! No obvious rust on the brakes but I will keep giving it a couple of hard brakes to see. Likewise the tyre pressures - they were about 5 psi over when it was delivered so I sorted that.

I'll take it in on Friday and see if they can find anything. But as it all appears to operate normally other than that, I'll use it as I need to before then!
