How old is the property? Is it a timber frame construction block of flats?0

The house was built in the 1950s. The building consist of four houses in the one block. As far as I know the houses are brick.0

In that case your ceiling joists and the flat above's floor joists are probably the same joist. Yours will probably have plasterboard or asbestos fixed to the joists and above will have his floorboards nailed to the top of the joists.
In modern timber framed flats the floor and ceiling joists can be separate.0 -
Thanks for the info. So if it’s the same joists would it not be possible to do all the work from the upstairs house? The reports says they would only remove 1m of the ceiling so it’s not a large part of the ceiling.0

Would guess they are cutting parts of some joists away, so this will affect your ceiling.1
