Drawer lever mechanism

Hi,have looked at DIY forums for help but none seem very responsive, so turning to you kind folk.
Trying to put together a ladder shelf and drawers but the small plastic level that detaches the drawer isn’t working.
I push it down as the instructions note but it doesn’t seem to do anything.
Im sure this is human error so please do let me know what I’m doing wrong?

Hmm, are they cheap runners or good strong metal ones?Do you need a lot of adjustment? They are only designed for small level changes. Are the runners themselves level fitted?0

There are two runners. Does the other one work okay?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
