Hi Regarding EDF 24% higher to fix than price cap. My rates quoted are 9.629/Kwh Gas and 33.62/ Kwh Electric with same standing charge as price cap. Rates for Gas with cap is 7.226 and Electric 27.09. I work this out as 24% increase for Electric but 33% increase for Gas as compared to your quoted 24% increase ( for both?_
Even worse for me with gas only from EDF - June 24 2 year fix showing gas at 11.153p/kwh -just done the sums and that would be ~ 46% increase. Decisions ,decisions....
Mine is even slightly higher than that, atm I am sticking on SVT for gas with EDF (but have already gone for electricity fix with BG on May23V1).
  • Call me an old cynic but if the energy companies are starting to offer fixed rate deals again, could this mean they see energy prices coming down?

Well the market signs say not til April next year at the earliest.

British gas allow you to switch to any of their other tariffs with no exit fee and Eon Next don't have exit fees (as far as I am aware) so there's two companies to fix with and not feel the pain if it does go down significantly next summer.

Like many I am weighing up the pros and cons of fixing now. I am with BG and being offered ‘Exclusive Jul23v2’, 37.3p UR, 49.6p SC (I’m not on gas).

Biggest negative currently is prematurely fixing while on their SVR (28p UR, 43p SC), which will likely stay as such until Oct.

Anyone have any insight as to how long these fixes will remain on offer for? It seems highly unlikely they will get better as Oct looms. I looked at the t’s and c’s for the offered fix and it mentions that BG only have a limited number of fixes for them to ‘sell’ and they can withdraw the offer at any time.

    Thoughts??

    Good evening,

Tonight I fixed my energy for 1 year with OVO and already starting to think I’ve made a mistake.  Do the below figures fit in with the general advice to fix now?

    Current:
     Electric: 28.08 and Standing: 39.67
     Gas: 6.97 and Standing: 25.92

    1 Year Fix:
     Electric: 35.65 and Standing: 48.17
     Gas: 9.75 and Standing 27.52

    Thanks!

    Dan

I’ve just fixed for a year with British Gas.

    Current

    Gas:

    7.280 KWH Standing Charge: 27.220p

    Elec:

    27.358 KWH Standing Charge: 48.527p

    Fixed

    Gas: 10.297 KWH SC: 29.959p

    Elec: 33.841 KWH SC: 54.007p

So your fix is a little cheaper than mine and I bet also your consumption is way less too. It’s so nerve wracking trying to pick the right thing to do isn’t it! But they strongly predict things will get much worse by October and then rise again 3 monthly from there so I guess it’s as good as we are going to get for now, and if things drastically drop it’s a £150 exit fee for us so will just bite the bullet and do that. With the £400 from the government I estimate our energy DD to rise by £92 per month on their prediction of our usage which I will now be looking very closely at how I can heavily reduce consumption! Candles and blankets! Take care.

I went for the ovo fix 8 days ago and like you I'm worried if I've done the right thing or not but I'm guessing its the better option then waiting for the October wave and its only for a year plus in the unlikely event that prices suddenly drop its not a huge exit fee. Mines slightly higher then yours and I'm assuming its the same tariff 'better energy'...

    mines set at
    Electricity 35.79p/kWh standing charge 54.10p
    Gas 9.82p/kWh standing charge 27.52p

I'm kicking myself for not fixing in march but who'd of thought it'd get this insane!!!

I also don’t know whether to fix!

    Current rates:

    electric
    unit rate: 29.58 p/kwh
    standing: 47.58p p/day

    Gas
    Unit rate: 7.34 p/khw
    standing: 27.77p p/day

    New offer:

    Electric
    unit rate: 35.79 p/kwh
    standing: 54.10p p/day

    Gas
    Unit rate: 9.82 p/khw
    standing: 27.52p p/day

I don’t know how to work out the percentage increase that’s talked about!

I’m starting to lose my bottle and on the verge of calling OVO to cancel!
