Student accommodation

My daughter signed up in advance for student accommodation, starting in July.

I’ve paid the deposit and am guarantor for it but she no longer needs it.

is there a way we can back out of the contract?

Thanks

What does the contract say about cancellation/no longer required?

Normally you are liable unless you can find another party to take on the room.  My daughter had this in her shared house, where one of the students signed up for next year and then decided not to do the third year.  She had to pay the rent on the room, until the found someone else to take on the rent.

I thought that may be the case! Many thanks

So ask your daughter to speak to the rest of the group and ask them to look for s replacement tenant.
It is up to the group to find the replacement tenant they are happy to live with for the next 12 months and NOT the Landlord.
She can put an advert on the University accommodation website.

    https://www.manchesterstudenthomes.com/Accommodation

Above is the website for Manchester and I am sure most Universities will have something similar.

She could also check out Student Union, Facebook and other accommodation websites for adverts.
    Accomodation for Students !
    Spare room
    University friends.
Lots of students will be looking for somewhere to live
  • That’s great - thanks for the additional info.

The LL does have to agree to the replacement though. They don't have to do so.
