British Gas - Moved house 5 months ago, now they recalculate final bill!
Options
Hi, I moved house 5 months ago. I submitted final meter readings to British Gas and I got an online bill 3 days later. Paid the full amount and my account has shown £0.00 for the last 4 months. I kept checking it because I was waiting for my credit from Peoples Energy. I have finally got my credit from Peoples Energy in my old British Gas account. Trying to get that out has been a nightmare. Finally someone said we will transfer it to my bank account last week. It has still not been transferred but on checking I find that my credit has been nearly halved because they say they have recalculated my final bill, from over 5 months ago! The meter readings tally with what they have. Can't get any sense out of them.

How does the bill you see now with the original 'final' bill you had, in terms of meter readings and tariff details?0

Can't get any sense out of them. That is entirely possible as 5 months ago you probably didn't have confirmed readings for the date that BG were appointed as SoLR as that was tied up to the calculation of the final credit from PE.Initially BG were billing people from the date the supply actually transferred ot them which was days or weeks after the appointment date, then once everything was finalized they have been reversing the original bills and rebilling from the correct date and meter reading...

you need to look at the final bill from Peoples Energy and the last/revised bill from British Gas. Do all the meter readings add up. If the new BG bill has a revised starting meter reading (which I suspect could be the case) that matches the closed reading from PE then that would assume that you origional "Final" bill from BG was based on an inaccurate opening meter reading.0

Thanks, I was just venting. You are right, I know the final reading is correct, so it is the transition from Peoples Energy to British Gas that is vague. I can't access my BG account to see meter readings, same with PE. I will leave it, as I still have credit to return and leeway with the transition. Thanks!1
