Hi,
im seeking some advice please. We have booked flights to Split in September For our first trip to Croatia. Plan to spend a couple of days looking around Split, then rent a car to see a bit of the country without travelling hundreds of miles. Can anyone please advise? We are a couple in our 70s.

Swim shoes, as the beaches are very stony, and a decent insect / mosquito repellent - we went in September 2018 and I was eaten alive (and I don't normally attract mozzies).
The Diocletian palace area is lovely (but the vino in the main square is ££) we did a guided tour minibus to the waterfalls.1 -
Split is a great city for 2 or 3 days. It's very walkable around the old town, food and drink is great. There's also nice beaches really near the city centre.
If you're having a car then the waterfalls at Krka National Park are beautiful and an easy day trip from Split, or on the way to somewhere else Javna ustanova „Nacionalni park Krka“ (np-krka.hr)
That said from Split there's ferries to many of the nearby islands such as Hvar, Korcula, Brach, Solta etc. These could be done with or without a car but I'd recommend one or two of those.1 -
The catamaran from Split is great for exploring. We traveled between Split and Dubrovnik that way a few years ago and this September we plan to fly to Split, then travel to Hvar, then onto Dubrovnik. No car. In September, the ferries also go to Makarska, we haven’t been there but have had it recommended. To stay in Split, I would recommend one of the accommodations in the Diocletian’s Palace. It’s all pedestrianised so nice and quiet, and really full of character.
This will be our fourth trip to Croatia. You’ll love it.Debt Jan 2017 = £42kMay 2022 = £15k0
