I thought car insurance was now the same price? Irrespective of being a new customer or not?
Just received my renewal which has gone up £80 ( thanks to the mrs having a speeding points added ), but on the comparison sites, it’s £20 a year less

It was obvious that rates would go up - the insurance companies were doing very nice under the old system so they simply increased prices across the board. Lets be fair everybody else is putting up their prices. If its cheaper online then go with that0

I mean with the same company! I thought everyone was supposed to be paying the same new or old customers alike?0

Same happened with me in February - with LV. Renewal quote by email was £290, did an online quote and was quoted £240 for LV with same car, details, cover. When I rang LV up, they said the best they could do was £280. Very odd. Went with Sheila's Wheels for £210 instead. Saved money in the end.0

Is it possible that the slightly cheaper new customer online quote has some lower level of cover in some minor way that you might not notice when taking the policy?
For example, current cover might be like-for-like hire car if required, where cheaper cover might be cheapest available.1 -
Hey @DiseasedBunny, could it be that if you went through the comparison site for your renewal you'd get the same £20-cheaper quote?
The FCA says: Our rules ensure that renewing home and motor insurance consumers are quoted prices that are no more than they would be quoted as a new customer through the same channel.
That should mean that both you and a brand new applicant should get the same quote if you're both going through the same comparison site.1 -
Just had our multicar from LV and both my wife and daughters are down and mines up. This is despite none of us having points or claims.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
We are with LV. My renewal was £60 cheaper than last year and the wife's was £50 cheaper. I didn't bother to check the site for a new customer quote as I was happy with the prices they gave us.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0 -
Same here, £100 lower than last year with LV. Luckily the "incident" last year was declared not our fault!Shakin_Steve said:We are with LV. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
My LV renewal came through. 1 car up £15, 1 car down £5. I will see what the comparison sites come up with but I would expect any cheaper quotes to be with the bottom feeders.
