The process is generally slow with conveyancing, its something that can frustrate you but there is little you can do as the vendor other than get your EA to chase.

We had a similar experience as a vendor recently, our solicitor sent the draft contract fairly quickly but searches were not ordered for another 2 weeks. Our EA then chased and they solicitor said they do not raise any enquiries until the searches come back. It felt slow to me and even our solicitor told us not to pay for the management pack yet as they had not heard a word from the buyers solicitor and we were 7 weeks in at this point.
That's so frustrating. Did it work out in the end?

Our conveyancing took three months even though there was no chain  and we were cash buyers.
    I used to be seven-day-weekend

I really do think I went into the wrong profession, I should have been a solicitor. (But thought it would be boring. . . it is. But it's financially very rewarding.)
    This is a common myth.

A quick google search reveals that the average salary for a conveyancer is £25 - 35k.

I would not describe that as "very rewarding".

The whole point of searches is to ascertain whether enquiries need to be made. Nothing gets achieved by performing a job piecemeal. Do it once and cover all bases. Then move onto the next client.

Ha! Nope. 11 weeks after accepting their offer, our buyer couldn’t get their buy to let mortgage on their existing house and therefore couldn’t buy ours in the way they planned.

We now have to wait for them to sell their house so they can buy ours. Toyed with the idea of relisting but with a toddler and busy work lives, I can’t be bothered with the drama of getting the house spotless and needing to go out for a day for viewings etc.
