British Gas - unsure about tariffs

Hi All,
Had an email through the other day from British Gas to confirm that I am on a variable tariff (thought I had decided on a fixed tariff, but never mind). Thing is, I'm unsure what tariff to go on. I used the British Gas chat-thingy to try and discuss this with one of their advisors but got nowhere (may as well have been talking to a bag of custard). Their variable tariff is cheaper but their fixed is about £20 extra per month. They advised that my tariff is up in June but I can switch tariffs at any time and it would only take 24hrs.
Has anyone got any advice on what I should do here? Should I switch over to a fixed tariff in preparation for the big increase in October?
Cheers.

Can you tell us which tariffs you've been offered? They are all named and hopefully you've also been told the rates (price per kWh and per day)?

Hi QrizB,
Thank you for your response.
According to my British Gas account, I'm currently on something called the Peoples Tariff (possibly because I was with Peoples Energy before they went 'pop'...?)
'Peoples Tariff' - 7.365p / kWh - 27.220p / day
The 3 Tariff options I get are:
'Exclusive May 23v1' - 34.412p / kWh - 54.430p / day
'Fixed Apr 23v2' - 11.074p / kWh - 35.439p / day
'Green Future Apr 23v2' - 11.074p / kWh - 42.014p / day
Looks like the Peoples Tariff is the best option to stick with at the moment, what do you think?

@GingerOverlord
It's a gamble at the moment. Some say prices will rise 25-30% again in October so you have to factor that "finger in the air" guesstimate as well.
General rule of thumb for me is if someone can get a fix now in the summer months that is 15% or less more than the standard variable price then go for it.
Hope that helps.0 -
Hi Mstty,
Thanks for the response and advice.
OK, I'll bear that in mind - great stuff, cheers1
