Claimed PPI Tax refund

Hello, I claimed PPI through WFAC a few years ago, was happy with the money I got back, paid the fee & that was that.
I’ve now received a letter from HMRC telling me I have a tax refund but it’s been send to a company called Brookdale Ltd & I’ll receive my money within 14 days.
I have no idea who they were so did some digging & found out the take 48% of any monies owed. As I’ve never asked them or heard from them, signed anything to give my permission for them to do this on my behalf. Where do I stand in getting what is owed to me?

I checked the paperwork from WFAC & could find no mention of them or on the terms & conditions in the web page.
How can they take just short of half the refund. I’m quite capable of sorting my own refund had I known I was due one.

Ask them for a copy of the contract.
You were quite capable of posting your own PPI complaint yet you paid someone to do that, so it's more than possible you signed up for the refund service as well.0 -
I’ve checked all the paperwork there is no mention of the company only the solicitors they work with, they have no links to the company either. I would have done the PPI refund myself but as it was a loan from about 10 ago with my ex husband I had none of the account details, dates etc of the loan neither did he, so I did the claim for both of us. I was charged the fee because I made the claim but he paid half as it was worth it for the amount we got back.
Thank you for the response0 -

Either way HMRC are likely to hold two things,
1. An authority (purportedly) signed by you so they can act as your agent2. A deed of assignment which means HMRC are legally obliged to send any (and it is any) income tax refunds to them for the tax years the assignment covers.
If you no longer wish this company to act on your behalf you can get 1. cancelled.
But 2. can only be cancelled if the company also agrees to this.
You might find it useful to check with HMRC if there is an assignment and if so which tax years it covers.0 -

You didn`t need account numbers, or any details, other than a name and address, how else do you think the claims management company managed to get hold of them, they only have access to the same information you or I have.
You sign away a good many of your statutory rights when you sign up with these CMC`s, no one ever reads the small print which governs things like tax refunds etc, and certain other circumstances, once you authorise them to act for you, that stays in place until you revoke it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
