Easiest way to get gully grate cover off?

If the hammer and screwdriver technique has not worked try a patio knife, rake out the gap then hammer in between grate and frame and tap along, once cleared as best get a set of pliers or sidecutters and put one handle through slot in grate and pull up with other handle lightly tapping frame with hammer.Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. Smash it with a hammer and remove the pieces ,a new plastic one from the likes of Toolstation is £ 1.20 ,not worth the effort.0

The problem with that hammer approach is the risk of breaking the gully/pipe below.Ganga said:Smash it with a hammer and remove the pieces ,a new plastic one from the likes of Toolstation is £ 1.20 ,not worth the effort. But I agree that the effort required to salvage the grate isn't really worth it... the grate plus hopper should be under £10.0 -
Had to take whole grate out in the end then get cover off- easier than trying to get the cover off in situ. Angle grind and re-use. Thanks for all your advice!

Will probably check every few months in future to make sure cover stays loose
