Accused of theft from hotel

Did you tip your maid at the end of your holiday?
I also agree with zagflies, in that it would be unusual for maids to be on shift that early to "know" that a towel was missing by the time you checked out.
Have you read any reviews about this happening to others at this hotel? How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)1 -
I agree with Ganga, life is too short, forget it..,.. I have no doubt this whole thing is a mix up, nobody has actually stolen the towel and the hotel is not trying to rip you off. ....At the end of the day you wont go back and even if you did they wont remember you. Time to move on.

They probably knew the hotel was wrong and the chances of meeting them again is slim too none so just move on and use your energy for something else.lady1964 said:
It’s not even the amount, it’s the being accused of something we hadn’t done and in front of a group of people.Ganga said:I know it is the principle but is it worth all the hassle for £20? ,you probably spent more in the airport on your way there.0 -
Thanks everyone who’s commented.I’m glad I didn’t let it go because the hotel has apologised and has refunded the amount taken. As far as I’m concerned, that’s the end of the matter so I can let it go now 😀3

Has the hotel confirmed that they have now discovered that you didn't take the towel?
Or have they just taken the path of least resistance and apologised anyway?
I read your review and their response on Tripadvisor.
I would not be happy that the manager asked "you to apologize regarding the inconvenience that you encountered".
Or did he mean he wanted to apologise to you?
That response was posted 2 days ago.
Was that before or after they charged your card?

As for their response to my review, I think as English wouldn’t be their first language that it’s just a typing error.
They charged the card then refunded the amount.
I had 2 missed calls and my hubby one from a number in Morocco earlier, so the apology was done by email.
I’m just letting this go now, I got pretty much what I wanted.1 -
We've travelled with Thomsons/TUI countless times and had various issues - but happy to go again knowing the potential pitfalls of DIY, or booking through some of the OTA outfits.TELLIT01 said:Vegastare said:
As for holidaying with Tui - once was enough I'd rather shiver in UK than go with that shower.
I'm no great fan of TUI, but the options if you want a package holiday are severely limited these days.

I’m just letting this go now, I got pretty much what I wanted. You might want to raise a complain with the Moroccan Tourist Board ?I know it's a hassle over such a minor amount of money - however, as you rightly say, it's a matter of principle.I don't know how it works over there - but in Spain there is an official complaints book in every hotel etc. - maybe the Tourist people will check the hotel out to see if it has a track record of lumping "losses" on departing guests.
