first direct current account open

I must be doing something silly but I want to switch bank accounts and thought the first direct offer to open and try it out too good to miss. However i have tried clicking on the MSN link, the first direct link, an I just get a screen telling me what a great account it is but no way to apply? Is the offer still on and where am I going wrong?

As far as I can see, there's no MSE-specific FD offer at the moment, so there's no particular reason to follow the link from this site or the weekly emails (assuming that's what you meant by 'MSN link'?), so the generic public page at https://www1.firstdirect.com/banking/current-account/ would seem a suitable route, featuring a prominent 'apply now' button after the puffery....

Oddly, when I go to that page none of the links (not even the menu, let alone the highlighted blue ones) are live, which may be the problem the OP had.

I'm running Chrome with Ghostery activated.  If I deactivate Ghostery the links become live.

If you go to their webpage and click current accounts it takes you to this below. Click on the highlight in blue "continue in browser" and it goes to the application page.

Have not used the forum for some time but i didn't get any notification that this had been updated. The offer was in the 30th march newsletter, although it was a few weeks before i had time to click on it. Going to their own website takes you to the same screen with same problem. However this forum has solved it - i too use ghostery and by making www1.first.direct a trusted site it has all worked. Thanks ian

Just a word of advice as someone who has opened an account with first direct because of this — 100% use the app to apply and submit your ID.

Especially if you happen to have an older smartphone such as a Galaxy S9 like me, because the website will continuously suggest that it isn't compatible and refuse to go beyond the ID verification link.
