Airport step by step post covid & brexit

Hi
We are going on our first flight since covid and brexit to lanzarote on Monday!
Can someone just give me a step by step of the process now ...
We are triple jabbed, and have checked in online and uploaded our QR code to Ryanair. We only take hand luggage

Previously our airport trip would've looked something like this, but just wondering where covid checks, and any brexit stuff now fit in..

- Check in online
- park car
- walk into airport
- go through security checks-- show boarding passes here
- wander through shops
- go to gate
- check boarding pass & passport
- board flight
- NAPTIME
- plane lands
- queue for an hour to have passport waved through without even been looked at
- spend 1/2 hour looking for bus or driver with our name spelt wrong
- arrive at hotel

Please advise where any changes now are to be done, as I hate not knowing exactly what is expected

Huge thanks in advance

A lot depends on your airport (both ends), your airline and your destination. Check any current requirements with checking in early due to airport queues , we’ve not been affected by this so far but friends who went out from Heathrow last week were asked to get to airport earlier than normal in case of queues. Double check the latest requirements of the country you are visiting on the Gov website.

Have masks available if needed, have any forms you are required to show in paper form as a back up we have NHS covid passes on our phones but always carry a back up print out as well and it’s often a lot quicker to show that .

We’ve had to show various forms at various airports here and abroad (we’ve been travelling since we have been allowed to) and the only irritation we’ve had is the automatic passport gates that some Spanish airports sometimes use and which are slow and don’t like my passport for some reason.

    Hi

    I hope these help

    re proving your COVID status
Download the NHS COVID App to your phones and do the form for Travel
Also, download this to the wallet in your phone
Also, print a paper copy and carry this with you
These are back ups so not necessary but helpful - if you just use the App and get get on internet when you land then it can save hassle

On arrival in Spain follow the Orange Lane
You are not supposed to need Spanish PLF forms on arrival now for Spain but we have heard of them being asked for at some airports so if you get 5 mins I'd do the PLF forms anyway in advance and then you really will have a stress free trip

    General
Since we left the EU you don't get free mobile data there with many companies - set this up before you go if you can - some charge eg £2-£3 a day for data while there
Get to UK airport 3 hrs before flight still - you will be expected to be at the Gate 45 mins before flight time and security could take 90 mins - so get there early and relax

Make sure you know Ryanairs up to date baggage rules - the hand luggage allowance has massively dropped - I'm sure you know this but its worth mentioning in this context

Brexit has only changed that you need to check the FCO website for entry requirements for the EU in the same way you would have done for RoW beforehand... what the FCO site will say will have changed notably though

Covid is the one driving real change but again reading the FCO website is the first step.

What's missing from your to do list however is checking UK requirements before you come back... realistically its unlikely to be a problem now but Mexico went onto the red list and back off again during our extended trip out there and would have meant either changing plans or booking into a quarantine hotel on our return before flying.

I'm also interested in the answers/experience as Lanzarote would be top of our list when we next go abroad.

Please let us know how you get on.

Also, I'd love to hear your hand luggage only packing tips for a hotel stay.  We're "overpackers" and always take 2x20kg cases!!  However they usually weigh in at 15&17.

Which hotel are you staying at?
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.50% of current retirement "pot" (as at end August 2024)

We went to Toulouse at the end of March.
Security at Gatwick has improved or we just had lucky timing.
On arrival in Toulouse, we weren't allowed inside the terminal until our Covid passes had been scanned.
Our passports were checked, scanned and actually stamped!  Remember the days?  It would hurry things up if passengers had their passports open at the correct page.
Don't forget a supply of face masks.  Some countries no longer require them on the flight but Spain is not on the list, at the moment.

We're going to Tenerife on Friday with on board luggage only (note to self measure bags).  We wear and wash but do know there is a washing machine available at the apartments and use the pool towels provided.  Buy toiletries/suncream on arrival.

It's important that they are stamped on arrival and departure to show that you have not overstayed the 90 days in 180 requirement in the EU.

Depending on where you are flying from I would add at least an hour to the recommended 2 hours before departure.  Some queues have apparently been horrendous.

Strangely we went through Gatwick at end of March and no one asked to see our Covid passports until we checked in after queuing for about 10 minutes, it was only the briefest of glances though. In January we also had to show it at the boarding gate but we didn’t in March.

Apologies, I'll alter my post.  On arrival in Toulouse.
