Moving house - do I have the right to stay on standard variable rate?

I just moved to a house that has energy supplied by SSE at the standard variable rate. When registering with them online, the only tariffs they offer are fixed-term at above the price cap for default tariffs. Do I have the right to keep the standard variable rate instead?

Yes you are automatically on the deemed tariff which is identical to the SVT. Just give them a call and report the opening meter read to them.
Don't let them push you into a fixed tariff, you are automatically already their customer and they cannot force you to take up a fixed tariff.2 -
Yes, you'll need to ring them though.1
