Gift Car

Options
My parents had bought themselves a new car so for my birthday I was given there 2 yr old Audi A3!

13 months later my parents demanded that I start making payments as it was still in HP. I was to pay £259 a month which was outrageous. My parents were also concerned that I was putting a lot of miles on the clock. The car was never a gift it was literally a means of controlling me. The only document I had that linked me to the car was the VR form being in my name, I should of given the dam thing back

I then fell out with my parents & because of this they hired a lorry loader to remove my car from me without any notice. Having the Audi removed upset me but having toxic parents do something like that to you really hurts

Did I have any rights? What kind of parents do this to there 42 year old daughter! Im in the middle of writing a letter to my mum & dad for closure! They certainly left a daughter fully scared for in her adult life

If its hire purchase car then it wasn't really theirs to gift.

Did they inform you that payment would be required?

It's not really a gift then.

If. You do not want to be controlled at 42, might be better to return it

  • it was it was taken from me by a lorry loader!
I guess my father was going to continue paying for it!

What 'rights' are you wondering that you might have?

If it's still in HP then the people who took out the finance agreement (your parents) are responsible for paying it but if they don't the car can be taken by the lender. So you don't really own it whether it was a gift or not.

I would suggest you forget about it and move on with your life.

You have the right to as much/little contact with your parents as you would like.

As for the car, look on the bright side, you had a 13 month loan car for little (financial) cost

You were 48 in another thread?

You also have a mobility vehicle (another thread), so just hand the audi car back, and cut ties with your parents if you want too.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
  • What are you scared for?

I think this thread is fugazi

You are one hell of a detective!!!!

This was going Back roughly 5 years ago! If you read my 1st post I mentioned it being removed via a lorry loader! My reasons for asking such a question is Im writing a closure letter to my toxic parents, one of the topics I want to mention is the removal of my Audi! I should of given the poxy piece of tin back before it was taken from me. I wanted to know if you gift a car what rights did I have. If your saying nothing then so be it

Your absolutely right & also 2 very nasty parents who wanted to teach me a lesson in not arguing with them!
