Will £60 a month be enough for prepayment metre for 1 person?

But what about the forthcoming winter?JonVarnas said:I get away with £40 electric and £20 gas a month, so it is doable.
Those sort of costs may have been doable until recently, but I'd be astonished if you'll be able to maintain that, going forward. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)0 -
Based on current prices around a third of that would automatically go on the standing charge, it might have just about been possible based on historic rates, but with current rates and keeping future rises in mind then it will be impossible unless one has an alternative source of heat and is willing to live in darkness with few modern comforts.JonVarnas said:I get away with £40 electric and £20 gas a month, so it is doable.1 -
At least 25% of the £60 will be going on the SC so ask yourself if your usage minus the SC is under £45 per month. @ 28p per kWh 200 kWh will be £56, your usage would have to be around 160 kWh per month SC. Any higher SC and unit rates will mean less kWh per month will have to be used.Glencoecheesesticks said:I'm moving out of my shared accommodation to live alone for the first time. I've never had bills other than phone bills in my name. The flat i'm looking at renting only has prepayment metres. I will also be working from home. The rent is £400 for a studio flat, all electric and has a C EPC rating. I'm thinking of only topping up £60 per month. Will this be enough? Apologies if this is a silly question when it comes to energy bills I'm clueless.Someone please tell me what money is0 -
There are two of us but we are VERY careful with usage - we are on prepay with E7 and our spend averages out over the year at approx. £120 per month (we are fully electric) Of course it's much more in winter than in summer, so that is an average over a 12 month period. That was last year though, I'm dreading to see what this years will be if I'm honest!

Does your property compare to the studio flat the OP is looking to live in?CurlySue2017 said:There are two of us but we are VERY careful with usage - we are on prepay with E7 and our spend averages out over the year at approx. £120 per month (we are fully electric) Of course it's much more in winter than in summer, so that is an average over a 12 month period. If not rooms and bedrooms and age of property may give some context.0
