An expensive lesson unfortunately.
To be fair to the host, they didn’t need to let you amend dates at all as you not being able to attend the villa isn’t their issue - if it was available for you to use then it’s not the host’s problem if you can’t get there.
Their email back to you reads to me like it’s not confirmed yet, so I think you’re out of luck on this one.
