It appears you didn't contact the energy company on 15 March to give them your meter readings.Obviously the tenant/owner didn't give the energy company the meter readings when their responsibility for the account ended. From what I understand the energy company would have no idea that responsibility for the account had changed until you contacted them after receipt of bill in April. The above is a common scenario.Without meter readings for the 15 March from either party, what portion of the bill do you wish written off?0

The bottom line is did you take meter readings when you moved in? Did you pass these to the energy company on or around that date?
Whatever you done you really need to get on the phone and get this sorted otherwise you are going to start your new home with a bad credit record.0 -

When we bought the property and moved in, we told them we was switching supplier but would be willing to pay for the usage from the 15th March onwards as that was when we were legal owners. That was very generous of youYou obligation upon completing your purchase was to contact the existing supplier, open an account, set up a payment method and give them the meter readings.Only after that should you have started your switch. If you didn't do that then you have another reason why the back-billing rules do not apply...
