Where do I find an independent damp surveyor?

The level 3 surveyor has found high levels of damp throughout the ground floor of the Victorian house. It starts from ground level and tapers away at about a metres height. 
He says not to use a damp contractor which I knew really but I'm struggling to find an independent.

Don't get "free" survey by a damp company with a vested interest in selling to you.

@anselld this link only shows the type of damp company that will sell to me! I do know to avoid hence my post  sorry if I wasn't clear enough

If you use the search facility, there are lots of very recent threads to find details.

As a side, can you see any issues from the outside ie high ground levels, potential drains, faulty guttering?

The PCA is the trade body for the entire damp proofing industry (they also advocate other damaging "fixes" such as spray foam insulation). Be careful with any recommendations from that quarter.

I would suggest https://www.heritage-house.org/building-surveys/building-condition-surveys.html - They should be able to recommend a surveyor local to you if they can't manage one themselves.
