Northumbrian Water

I recently had a CCJ put against my name by northumbrian water, i moved out of a property in june 2019 back to my parents house and cancelled my accout with NW.

I had went through a name change so when i cancelled the account it was in my old name, since i left NW created a new account in my new name with out my consent and have billed me for nearly 3 years of water rates.

When i questioned how this can be done they said they dont need my consent to charge me as the had an assumpion i still lived there, surely this is illegal.

Can any help and shed any light on this

Thank you in advance

I noticed you said you cancelled your account but did you actually tell them you were leaving and give them the date you were leaving/left?  Do you still have a copy of that notification?

In their eyes you live there and are responsible for the bill until such time as you tell them you don't live there any more.
If you notified them of a leaving date then point this out to them and they should bill the current occupant. if they don't play ball make an official complaint on the matter.

Yea, i left and recieved my final bill from them which was a small refund and it was all settled.

I have spoke to NW who advised they seen my new name liked to the old address and set up an account based on the assumption it was a differnt person, they have advised this was found out through transunion. I had a linked address which they have never contacted.

They said they are disappointed the new occupier hasnt contacted them to set up an account or return my mail

You need to get the ccj removed ASAP. Lodge a set aside request.

I don't believe they can just set up an account like that either.
