I am currently insured with AXA. I have been so for some years. I have a clean license. 14 years NCB.  No accident. No claims. No convictions. Good credit rating.

I have a car insured with AXA. My father passed away, so I wanted to insure the car, so that I can use it pending a sale or alternatively keep it.

AXA say it cannot quote me (simple family car but 15 year old). I tried a newer 4 year SUV, but again it was declined. So not the age of the car.

I don't understand what has changed at these insurance companies? As I had no problems before.

My post, bank and electoral register is at my parents. However, they are a just 3 miles apart.  However, I do tell the insurer that car is at my flat. I do spent time at both place, but more so at my flat.

AXA wont tell me why they wont quote. AXA did they could mirror my NCB, so I keep 14 years.

For the second car, I tried low mileage companies, but they advertise it for £200, but getting quote of £600, for a car which barely does 1000 to 2000 miles.

I wanted to buy an electtric car and keep of one of two cars, as a spare. They are n't worth much, but handy for long journeys, where electric wont meet my needs.

I do get quotes from the likes of Admiral, but I had bad experience from their group (many years ago), but on the basis of 0 years NCB.

Some companies like Direct Line, Aviva will not quote.

Ultra low mileage like 1,000 is likely to result in higher premiums than if you were doing 5-8k.

Call centre agents are not told the reason why the computer says no, they do little more than you do if you do a quote online and the system shows them nothing more than it shows you when you get a quote online. Unfortunately some do go off script and theorise as to reasons why prices increase etc but those are the random musings of someone with no training in the matter and you may as well be asking a random person in the street.

A minority of insurers do use credit rating as a rating factor but most its relatively minor input into their fraud scoring and elasticity modelling so rarely results in a decline. Some may use it for ID checking but presumably you are an adult and so have the majority of your things registered at your home address even if a couple of things still go to mummy's so would pass the fact you exist. Where is your driving license registered to? Are you generally putting in your license number in or saying you dont have it and manually entering duration, points etc?
  • As it stands you have 0 NCB for the second car and shouldn't really expect an insurer to offer you more than a small introductory discount.
I agree ref. the mileage , I have always found that once I put less than 7,000 miles per year the premium goes up .
Have you actually checked if AXA will give you a quote with 0 NCB ?

I have tried various things. Like adding a temporary car, second car etc... They just will not quote.

It feels like I have been blacklisted somehow....

It could be they don't like insuring cars that are not owned by the spouse or partner.       Is the car still owned by the estate or has the estate been distributed and ownership of the car changed to be in your name with DVLA?
