We currently live in a 3 bed detached house with a single garage that is attached, but only accessible from the garden or drive way. If you plan to stay for 10-15 I would focus on whether it is the right choice for you in terms of how you use / live in the house.

None of us can say whether, in another 10-15 years, a garage or a bigger kitchen / utility will add more value .

I would fo some research about the cost of getting it done, whether you can get planning permission etc, and how much those costs will add to your mortgage, then decide wif you think it is worth it for the benefit it will give you as a improvement to your home.
