Hire car excess waiver in Spain?

The cost of extra insurance on the car to cover minor damage/tyres etc was pretty extortionate. I'm sat at the hotel and got curious, are there any other companies that can cover the excess for less than the hire company? Or is it too late now that I already have the car.

Take excess insurance to cover you costs around £40 a year0

There are plenty of excess insurance companies out there... they dont waive the excess but reimburse you afterwards.
Never looked at the T&Cs to see if the policy has to start before the hire, for a single hire policy I can imagine this is the case but for an annual policy it may be possible to get post hire (obv pre any accident/damage etc).
Just a slight word of caution, sometimes the claim process can be a bit difficult as they often want details of the repair to ensure they were above the excess value and hire companies are often reluctant to hand these over.0 -
Bit late if you have taken the cover tho but get it to cover you for future trips0

Bummer, most policies seem to be only available to be taken out before the actual hire commences.

It's a standard ploy by most of the major car hire companies. Make you think you are fully covered by saying CDW is included. Get to the desk and they tell you there's a massive excess, maybe £1000, and they'll need to hold that on your card unless you buy their very expensive "Super CDW" to cover the excess. Or the other one is telling you there's no excess, but half the car is excluded from their CDW eg glass, tyres, roof, underside etc.
