    There may be a section in your tenancy agreement or putting the property back in its origin condition which would apply here if not specifically mentioned elsewhere.

    Whilst googling Octopus tend to offer this service for free but connection that would cost

    Not that important anyway, I think on the off chance I would want to heat rooms, the gas I will prefer to keep on.  Plus I would probably contact my LL about it to keep best relations as well, so would seek permission regardless.

    I would suggest that if it is not the gas company disconnecting the supply on no payment of bills(which they don't they just out in pre pay meters) or gas safety then you are willfully changing the property without LL permission.

    Have you factored in the cost of reconnection if you did disconnect and how that stacks up on savings? When is the break even point?

    Well technically permission is not needed but you are allowed to be charged for any changes at the end on the tenancy that you made.

    And yes that would include if the supply company forcably fitted a prepay meter (or indeed disconnection but you would have had to bypass the prepay about 5 times for that to occur).

    Of course blood/stone.

    Of course, I have assumed I would be paying for it to be recconected.

    As I said in my above edit though, I would very likely seek permission/agreement anyway, so the question was mostly a curiosity one.

    Also I think I probably wont be getting it disconnected, as the question of needing heat in rooms is a good one, whilst I dont use central heating now, I never know in the future.

    Never mind online references, what specifically does your tenancy agreement say?
    The UK Govt model agreement includes an obligation on the tenant to pay for the cost of reinstating any disconnected utilities.

    It's an interesting dilemma for sure, probably one going through lots of peoples minds. Especially with the gas standing charge of approx £100 a year and a lot of people looking at heat the person not the home to save money.

    If you know how to, and are confident about doing so, how about turning the pilot light off, and re-lighting it manually when you need to run the boiler to heat the water? It's a bit of a pain, but worth it if you only use it a couple of times a week.

    Its usually a big pain to light and the boiler is in a horrible hard to reach location, if it relit easily I would consider this idea for sure, thank you.
