Child savings and UC

I am trying to save little and often for my children and I am trying to work out the limit on childrens savings regarding UC.
I think Martin made a comment on childrens savings and UC which is:

junior isa: not counted towards UC regardless of amount saved
other savings: counted towards UC if over £3k

my question is: is the £3k per child or total amount for all children?
So if I had 3 children, each with £1k in a standard bank savings account. Looking ahead, will this add with the money I’m trying save in me and my partners HTS account towards the £6k threshold?

Thanks in advance

The limit for each child is £3k and no it won't impact on your savings limit as long as it remains below £3k, savings in a JISA are ignored as they are not accessible until the child is 18

  • Thank you so much for your reply.
So to clarify, the kids savings account are in their individual name but my name is on the account as I am the parent and I have access to these accounts, then this would still be o.k as long as each child has less than £3k?
    Sorry to be a pain.

If you have access to the accounts then this could cause an issue if the total amount is more than £6,000.
  • OK thank you for clarifying
