Morning GC'rs
I had the chance to go by our MrL today, and popped in on the off-chance there were any veg boxes. There weren't. Wonder if our branch has stopped doing them, as others have reported 🙁 Then went into MrA, as I had to pop to the bank. I dropped lucky (ish) with some YS'd cAuldr0n veggie sausages (Lincolnshire style), for £1.26 a pack. I bought them as we like them, and they were nearer the price we pay for LMc sausages (on offer) and there was no point in assuming they would still have been around later in the day to be marked down any less. I purchased them with my 'stocks' money, as we won't eat them in May. I did also get some SP porridge oats, so a 75p spend to add to my May GC total, as I think I will have a go at some savoury flapjacks as I also need to make cake (for the tin), as I have eggs again, so will have the oven on - in addition to cooking LMc burgers and chips for tea.

I went to Morries to get a TGTG bag last night. Does anyone know what has happened to their own brand savers or British butter? not even a space on the shelf for it now. I may need to tweet them (they do usually respond).
I am seeing things increase in price too and although I am diligent about using my offers where they are things we eat, the base price increases are higher than the discounts. For example 300g of cheese (West Country Extra Mature Cheddar) had 10% off but was no longer 2 for £4, it was £2.75-28p so £2.47. I shall have to go back to offers only and freezing it grated in big bags to make it go further.
I did manage to pick up a carton of yeo valley whole organic milk for 29p. It was smaller than 2 pints so guessing 2L. Cream has also gone up to 2.10 from 2.00 but it should be a luxury. Our son's birthday approaches so I picked up a pack of 2 large rib-eye steaks as a bit of a special treat - they both love steak and I know how to cook it to their preferred state (after a really disappointing celebratory meal out DH said he thought my cooking was better than the restaurant and a third of the price so there it is!). I also picked up dried egg noodles (I don't use them that often but they are a good standby) and I was shocked they were labelled at £1.75. I'm fairly sure I paid £1 last time. I added two packs of naans RM to pop in the store-cupboard and got £2.75 off three. I also never see Birds Custard Powder on offer now. £1.55 paid instead of £1.20 (£1 on offer).
I managed to get 6 tins of mandarins in fruit juice as I will be making 30 or 40 individual jubilee trifles and life is to short to make every element so packets of jelly, jar of lemon curd on a slab, not a roll of hm sponge, Birds Custard, lemon zest and bought Amaretti biscuits. It will be fine!
In total I spent £33.78 plus £16.80 for the stores but this includes the trifle ingredients, for which I will get money back. I've added them in to my running total. Just milk to add £6.86 delivered by the super-reliable dairy. My total for the month is £153.26/£200 budgeted so far.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Your milk would have been 1l not 2l @Suffolk_lass - a litre is about 1.75 pints. We only buy UHT milk now, usually buy it in MrL and that has gone up by 9p/l from 50p to 59p; that's a huge jump in one go.

Good afternoon everyone,
A (very large) shop to declare today in Aldeees of £60.40, bringing a total of £196.69/£200.
I'll be shopping again in a week so I expect to go over, drat!
Today Mr Van decided we should do a bulk shop, as he feels that will save money in the long run now that food prices are increasing weekly, I'm sure hes right, but i prefer to keep nice organised cupboards. I also hate pushing the big trolley around, much prefer the nippier small one meaning I can be in and out much quicker.....i hate shopping!
But, we will need very little next week, so maybe not all too bad in the grand scheme of things.
I'm quite annoyed as I bought a bag of green leaves, purely because there was a 30% off label and they looked in good condition. But on checking my receipt at home the discount wasnt applied, so I'm going to be brave and confront Aldeees with that next week
Noticed Eat well for Less has restarted on tv, very pleased to see that there was a big emphasis on saving food from being binned.

A horrifying £101.75 spent over the last couple of days, between the supermarket yesterday, the bakers & the market this morning. I now have £18.97 left in my budget to last 5-6 of us for the next 11 days; if I really had to, I could probably do it, by emptying the freezer & ignoring the moans & my somewhat sensitive digestive system. Luckily I don't have to, but I'm reviewing whether to 1) accept that the budget needs to be put up a little or 2) adjust the menus. We don't eat a vast quantity of meat (two inhabitants being pescatarian) & that doesn't seem to have gone up very much, though admittedly I'm now choosing cheaper cuts like brisket, but today our usual amount of cheese was nearly £15; it was under £10 just a few weeks ago, and the fish that would have been £8 then was £12 today.
Can't imagine how horrifying these increases must be for single Mums and pensioners on a tiny income...Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)6 -

£15.99 on the veg box went out earlier in the week. I plan to do our weekly shop tomorrow - and it should be a low one.
