Changing name

Options
Hi all

I got married on Saturday and it might be a few weeks until we get our marriage cert in the post.

We are due to go away in a few weeks too. So probably won't get it before we go. Anyways when it comes to changing my name am I able to keep my passport in maiden name but change everything else. Just because I not long got a passport and won't run out for a good few years. I am not sure if we will be travelling soon but be good to keep. I am just worried if I change my provisional license then it won't match my passport and could cause issues such as for credit purposes.

How easy is it to change names and is there any I can so without supplying marriage cert of so they need that. I don't want to loose Mt original too.

as far as concerns over losing cert - you can order another one  (certified copy ) from the registrar - we had to send one in when we got our pensions so got a copy in case the original got lost in the process.

I never changed my name so not sure whether it matters having different names on things ??

If you're flying abroad just make sure the flight tickets are in the same name as your passport, otherwise you will have problems.

The "original" is actually the one in the register - you are given a certified copy (which feels pretty original as you get it at the time) - the certified copy is just as legal as the original one you got given / sent

I have everything half and half. Some bank accounts are maiden, done married. Same with bills.  My passport is married, driving licence maiden.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

If you get another from the registry office this is an original for the purpose of supplying it to third parties, so it may make sense to order a duplicate to use for that if keeping the one you signed is important to you.

You can leave your passport in you maiden name and shouldn't have any issues as long as that matches the details on the tickets!  (and I guess any covid certificate / test results you may need to get, depending where you are travelling to and what the rules are!)

Usually if you are changing your name because you've married the organisation will want to see proof, but for many purposes  (e.g. bank accounts) it should be fine if you either send a certified copy, or call in with the original and let them take a photocopy. Passport agency will need to see an original (official copy)

Credit shouldn't be an issue as long as you have other proofs - short term any checks will probably ask for previous names anyway

Friends of ours got married and the wife didn't bother to change her name on her passport until it renewed 8 years later.
My wife still hasn't changed her name. It caused us no issues at all on honeymoon or even last time we went abroad 4 years later.
May you find your sister soon Helli.
    Sleep well.
