Help required to manualy read this meter
Meter has stopped reporting electricity to the home display and to EDF
Gas readings are okay
Last week I managed to get a reading titled kWh Total
This week all I can get is kWh Rate1
Getting anxious about an expensive bill I cannot afford
Reported to EDF but nothing heard back

Thanks for reading

Steve

Unfortunately that page only covers the SMETS 1 variant. The button layout on the UK2 version is different, but the functionality of the orange and two blue buttons MAY be the same. I had one a while ago but don't remember what the buttons did. @SteveJW try resetting your IHD and make sure it's close enough to the meter to get a signal (see its own manual).
IF you are trying to use the IHD to check your costs, beware - IF the meter has not had the latest tariff uploaded to it, you won't have accurate figures. You'll have to use the kWh and do the sums yourself.
If you don't have Economy 7, then you are only interested in Rate 1 which should be the same as Total for electricity.

I have the same meter on economy 7. I just press the blue scroll down button a couple times to scroll through the rate 1 and rate 2 registers. However, using the orange round enter button and blue scroll buttons you can easily explore all the menus and settings. You should be able to find all the entries you need under the registers menu if I recall correctly.
  • I have the same one and it has never communicated with EDF or the IHD. They cba fixing it. I have given up.

Anyone found the manual for this one yet ?
Just had one installed and can't find one.
It was blank then pressed orange button and shows kwh used. It was lit up then left for minute and dimmed. Messed with scroll buttons but just leaving for now.

You will struggle to find user manuals for any smart meters as they were never designed with the consumer in mind. What exactly are you looking for other than a meter reading?

@[Deleted User] ,  Would have been nice to know that pressing orange button opened it up. Was then able to read kwh and compare against In home display. Before that it was blank.

I read in onother thread here somewhere that these smart meters have a battery that runs out after 6 years and whole meter has to be replaced. Even though it is now dimmed i wondered if it was worth making it go back to blank to extend the battery life.
And there are the scroll buttons. Probly out of interest really.

Gas meters have a battery life greater than 6 years. Electricity meters are mains powered.

From my gas meter technical specification:

    Key features:

    • Designed in accordance with UK smart meter specifications
    • Available as standard front view index or top view index (TVI)
    • GWi hall effect sensor (patent pending)
    • In-service replacement of communications modem and/or battery
    • 15 year battery life and 30 day backup battery
The meter will alert you and the supplier when the battery need to be replaced.

All smart meters have 4 registers. What you see in the IHD is the TOTAL of all the registers that have been used.

Only smart gas meters have a battery. Electric meters have a source of power.  :)
