Move from Tax credits to UC

I’ve done calculation and seems will be better off on UC. Is there a best time to move over as I understand my TC will stop as soon as apply for UC. If I’ve just been paid TC for that month then apply for UC will they request that TC back. Sorry if it’s a stupid question

Regardless of whether or not you've just been paid, when the TC are closed you will be sent a finalisation pack. HMRC will then calculate what you were entitled to up to the date of closure and compare it with what you've been paid. Either they will then owe you a closing payment or you will owe them money because you have been overpaid.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
