Strange coincidence?

I had to do a full reset on my Kindle Paperwhite (10th gen) to get the wifi working again, it was bought without ads and suddenly it started running ads after the reset, so had a battle with Amazon which resulted in an update to remove the ads.  At the same time the battery suddenly started deteriorating rapidly.  As an example, yesterday evening it started on 18% and after a couple of hours, with the light on 3, it went down to 5%.  It also seems to go down by about 5% whilst it is asleep for approximately 21/22 hours.

I have done a reboot and will try that out, do not really expect it to work.  I will then do a full reset (which will probably give them an excuse to put ads back on there), not sure if I expect that to work or not.

Does anyone have any other ideas please.

Don't really want to start opening it up and replacing the battery, can still get a reasonable amount for it by selling it, even to somewhere like CEX.

IF nothing works, does anyone have any recommendations for a new ereader?  I need a backlight and I would like good battery life, I do not necessarily need massive capacity (currently have 5.9 GB free of 6.23 GB).

Thank you.

If you have a phone or a tablet you can set up the Kindle app on that and it'll show you your library (you'll have to download the books again and it may not remember where you got up to).

Thank you, I use Calibre as a library and intend to finish my current books before the full reset :)

Currently charging it, the first thing I did when I plugged it in was reboot it.  Will be assessing the battery in the next few days.

Battery life takes a hit for a while after a reset, or new download, as the Kindle runs indexing in the background.

Just thought I would come on here and post the result.

It was not down to the reset, and have not really had battery problems after downloads (probably because I download whilst connected to the computer and charging).

It would appear the reboot did the trick, I last charged it when I did the reboot, so 15 days ago, and am currently on 57% :)

Rather glad it worked, it looks like there are some fabulous e-readers in the pipeline so shall be looking at some great ones when this does eventually fail, hopefully it will last a few years yet for further advances to be made :)

My wifes paperwhite has frozen and for the life of me I haven't been able to reset it. It just shows the welcome screen permanently.  Tried running the batter down and resetting it numerous times to no avail
