Hi all
I'm doing my car insurance renewal and being asked the question around fixed penalty notices and offenses in the last 5 years. September 2017 I got a speeding ticket but but when I search the government website, nothing comes up (it did last year and previously).
5 years would be September, unless they are not counting months. Any ideas?

Nothing wrong. Points re removed after four years.
However, if the insurer is asking for five then you'll have to declare it.0 -
Imagine yourself in the event of making a claim on your insurance. Insurer refuses to pay out because you didn't declare a speeding offence that occurred within 5 years of taking the insurance out.
Are you trying to save money MSE style or taking a risk? What could go wrong?
You know that if you spoke to your potential insurer and asked the same questions they would still ask you declare it regardless of what a "government website" says.

They'll ask for the date of offense so will be able to calculate premium based on it expiring completely during them term.
But the date to use would be 5 years from the date you get the quote (so 18th April, 2017) and thus you'd need to mention it to them.
Insurers share information to avoid fraud, so if you insured a car last year there's still a record of it.

Thanks all. My main concern was that I don't remember the date the offense took place, just know it was September time. I therfore can't give an accurate date.0

If you've used one of the search engines like confused.com then it will have remembered the details from a previous quote, and it should be mentioned in your previous insurance offers/policy docs if you've still got any of them.

Your renewal letter will usually come with a list of the answers you gave last time and an instruction to read carefully and tell them if anything has changed/is wrong. That should have the details of the ticket on it.1
