My in home display for SMETS2 is next to useless and is not user friendly. I have asked Eon to replace it with a Chameleon type which has a much better user friendly display. Eon say they can only replace it with the one initially supplied. Anyone know of a way round this?

Yes, buy your own from Chameleon or Hildebrand. Both companies are DCC registered and they can connect their devices to your comms hub. Cost - £50 to £70.

Here are some links:Hildebrand sell their IHDs from their glowmarkt shop (link). Stock availabiltiy is patchy but, if out of stock, they will let you register an interest.Or there's the ivie Bud, sold by Chameleon from the ivie shop (link).

Just put it in a drawer and use as little as possible on everything.0

@Oldmoondog What in particular are you finding is "unfriendly"? Which IHD is it?
Is it not displaying some data that you want or is it especially fiddly to get to that information?0 -
Hi, It’s a ‘Smartview2’, when compared to the Chameleon, it’s not very user friendly and fiddly to use.0

Real time data would be appropriate as there is nothing ‘smart’ about it! The whole point of these monitors is to be able to give the consumer the ability to analyse the date in real time. Ie what happens when the kettle goes on, or the washing machine e starts.0

There isn’t a smart meter/IHD on the market that gives real-time information for gas. The gas meter sends usage data (kWh) once every 30 minutes to protect battery life.
The electricity meter does show electricity in terms of instantaneous power (kW) and usage (kWh) but I am not sure that it tells me anything that I don’t already know. If I have an immersion heater which is rated at 3kW then I would expect my instantaneous power to increase by 3kW when the immersion is ON. The only way that a smart meter/IHD (or any meter for that matter) will save me money is if I don’t turn things on. There are better ways of calculating the cost of a washing machine cycle than a smart meter.
