Car Insurance Renewal
I have taken out a new car insurance policy through a compare site (it starts at the end of the month)
I have just received the documents through the post and upon checking the details.I have discovered that an accident that I mentioned nearly 4 years ago as being my fault says Driver Not At Fault.
Its an on line policy and have emailed them asking to amend at no cost to me.
I was wondering on my rights here and where I stand ?

I don't know what you mean by 'your rights'? You input the information, which was incorrect and received a premium which you were happy with and purchased, so the new insurer has done nothing wrong.
I assume that you want the premium re-calculated based on a non-fault claim, rather than a fault claim. You've asked them the question, so they will respond (although I think I'd have phoned them). Be aware that it may not actually reduce the premium because some insurers need claims information for 3 years although the majority will be 5 years. The comparison sites always default to 5 years to reduce the number of questions.
Whether they amend the premium (if applicable) at no cost will depend on their T & C's, so have a look at the information they supplied to see what it says.0 -
I think it's the other way round - the insurance company have quoted for a non fault claim and the OP wants them to honour that price when it's corrected to a fault claim.dwsjarcmcd said:I don't know what you mean by 'your rights'? You may be right although I've read it as the OP input it as a fault claim originally. If you're right then they will likely amend the premium up, assuming their underwriting of claims covers 5 years.chrisw said:

Perhaps the OP can clarify?0 -

What will happen is they will check your online app.
If it is their fault, I guess they may honour the price and if not, then it is up to you to stay with them or not.
Everything that is completed online has a trail/history.
I've made a mistake taking out insurance and as my wife is a named driver I put her DoB, the year as my own and as there is a 17 year difference ie she is older the premium went up. The funny thing is when I got the paperwork I did not noie this and even worse I did not realise it before as I'd been with them the year before. So about 6 months into the 2nd year of insurance I was clearing out paperwork and just checking stuff to ensure I only kept the latest paperwork then I noted the blunder. Thanfully it was the weekday and morning time - straight away I rang them and told them of my mistake/genuine error as I worry a lot. They charged me an additional amount for the current 12 months but nothing for the previous 12 months - it was LV insurance. A genuine mistake by me, it happens.
I find all big companies are pretty fair but often depend on whom you speak with.
If I was you. I'd wait the response and you may find you had nothing to worry about and ins co's often tell you beforehand if changes cost and or are free or free online/etc.0 -
The mistake is not mine as I have a copy of the quote,it was Topcashback Car compare Insurance.I went for Aviva which wasn't the cheapest price on the list of quotes. When I was was filling in the information on the Topcasback site I told them I had an accident where I was at fault, but on my policy it shows me as not at fault. I agree I didn't notice it was wrong on Aviva's site before I clicked purchase now.I do not wish to pay any more but if they tell me I have to,can I cancel free of charge as the policy doesn't start till the end of the month.0

OP whatever the outcome is, you will just have to grin and bare it or get a requote. No point in fighting it, but you can always ask nicely.0

When you selected the policy from the list on the Topcashback site it would have taken you to the actual insurers site. Did you then re-check everything was correct there before proceeding? Not too unusual for something to get lost in translation between those sites.Al_Ross said:The mistake is not mine as I have a copy of the quote,it was Topcashback Car compare Insurance.I went for Aviva which wasn't the cheapest price on the list of quotes. When I was was filling in the information on the Topcasback site I told them I had an accident where I was at fault, but on my policy it shows me as not at fault. Yes thats whats happened, and no I didn't check it over before I clicked purchase. There is no way to contact them apart from email them, which I've done, probably be Tuesday at the earliest they reply.0

Unfortunately I doubt they will see that as their error as it was incorrectly entered into their system, and they will see that as your mistake.
Hopefully they will just make the adjustment for you, and if there is a charge it will be minimal. Good luck and hope you get a good outcome.0
