Grays, Thurrock

Does anyone live in this area or have any knowledge on it? We viewed a property there & I'm not sure how the area is in terms of crime etc. I know the schools nearby are rated highly and people send their kids from other towns to them.

I lived a short drive from there at one piont, but it was a long time back and would not be a good representation of the area now.
If it helps, you can look at the overall crime rates here https://crimerate.co.uk/essex/grays#:~:text=Grays%20is%20the%20third%20most,101%20crimes%20per%201%2C000%20people.

Thanks for that. We have also just realised that there is a closed pub next door which has applied to re-open and it looks like the council will grant the permission...this has completely put me off from wanting to go ahead with this property.

I live not far from Grays and its… ok. That’s probably the kindest thing I can say. Theres some very nice bits around the Avenues, and the house prices reflect that. The town centre has a big morrisons, a wilko, and a couple of nice bakeries, but its not the sort of place to spend a Saturday afternoon window shopping. I dont know the area by the river at all, whenever Ive driven through it it seems to be mostly flats.

We used to live there and you couldn't even pay me to move back anywhere near. Honest opinion sorry! Theres pockets around that are better, Chafford Hundred, Orsett, Horndon on the Hill, Stanford Le Hope but yeah, Grays is not a nice place on the whole

Grays has historically been dog rough.

It improved slightly after Lakeside opened and flats were built by the docks. From what I can see now, lots of families are moving in that direction from Barking & Dagenham and the place is improving gradually over time wrt demographics, but given the choice I would avoid it and head for South Essex.

No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.
