To listen to BBC Sounds it is necessary to create a link between the device and the BBC. I've followed the procedure and received an email saying that the link has been created. When I try to play BBC material Alexa says that I need to connect it to BBC Sounds.
I've gone through the set up procedure several times and restarted both the device and my router. I keep getting emails saying a link is established but it isn't.
Please can anybody tell me how to sort this out.

Not exactly sure what you've done. I logged on to my accont on a pc and enabled the bbc sounds "skill". From memory I had to try a few times over a number of days. It possibly takes a while before it actually works. From memory I may have logged in through my Amazon account.1

I don't find it entirely reliable even when properly set up.1
