Scottish Power Fixed or go to SVR
Options
Hi,
im moving house next week. I had fixed in Feb until Feb 2024 with Scottishpower so I can port this to the new house. Question is should I go to the SVR at the house (British Gas) as the price cap is cheaper until September. The price cap is around 7.5% cheaper at the moment. It’s much cheaper than any fix at the moment but more expensive than the cap. It does give certainty though. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Have you checked with Scottish Power and they've said you can take your fix with you, or are you just assuming that you can?
My guess is you'd be best keeping the fix if you can but it may not be possible.1 -
+1. If you can keep the fix, then based on all the predictions for the October cap increase I would stick with it. The 7.5% saving from now until October will more than likely be wiped out when the cap increases.1

Just to add, whether transferring or not you still must first register with the current suppliers at the new property, and give them the meter readings for when you move in. I'd take photos as proof myself too. Don't agree to a fixed term deal with the new supplier, they must allow you to stay on their standard variable rate tariff, although they may suggest/imply otherwise.1

Just checked the contract. It seems as though I lose the deal when I move 🙄. Looks like I’ll be on the SVR. Hope BG don’t mess me around. Thanks for the advice 👍0
