Hi all,
we were in a shop at the weekend and unfortunately the owner began poking at the roof obviously to get something down that was hanging there. He set of what looked like a sprinkler that then poured black liquid everywhere. This black liquid had subsequently stained our clothes and ruined them, and food items we bought.
this was in a shopping Center so we went to the information desk and after 30 minutes covered in what ever this mysterious liquid was the manager finally turned up told us it was just water however not safe to eat the food products we purchased.

The shopping Centre has told us that we have to get in contact from the shop directly, however the way that the centre handled the incident is appalling and what ever the liquid was has brought my other half up in a rash. We’ve got pictures of everything.
Question is we’re just wondering what our next step is and if we had to take this further do we have a potential claim?

What did the shop say? I'm not sure why you think the centre management are laible when it seem that it was staff in an individual shop which caused the incident.5

Potential claim for what exactly? When the manager said it was unsafe to eat he food, did he then offer to refund and dispose of it? If no, then yes you can claim that.Have you washed your clothing and the stains remain? If yes, then you can claim the cost of replacement. This is like for like, so a £60 jacket purchased 3 years ago may only now be worth £20.The skin rash, did your other half go to the Dr's/Minor injuries? If no, then you can potentially forget claiming anything for this.4

Any claim will be against the shop as you saw somebody in that shop doing something which caused the sprinker to go off. For the rest it's as powerful_Rogue explains.

The chances are it was water. But water that had sat in the same pipes for years, since the system was installed. It would be full of rust and other muck.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.2 -
