The care home may still have rules about who can visit due to covid and limit visitors. You could check directly with them what the situation is.4

as @spendless says it may be related to the homes rules about visiting - you need to ask them
you say "next of kin" - there is no legal rights that go along with someone taking on that title - the only thing that would make a difference is if a) grandad didn't want to see you and ultimately it is up to him or b) auntie has power of attorney for health and welfare and it is considered in grandad's best interests not to have visitors (unlikely)3 -
Care home visiting guidance shouldn’t prevent you from visiting unless there’s an outbreak. There is no longer a limit on the number of visitors.
If you want to check if your aunt does have LPA for health/welfare you can check here.

Who has told you you can’t visit? Your aunt, your grandad or the care home? Your grandfather may still be well enough to make that decision for himself, even with a dementia diagnosis. When did you last see him, as that may have some bearing? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
