New Shark vacuum - is this right? (brush-head rotation)

We've just taken delivery of a new Shark corded upright VC.

Model NV602UK.

It's seems just the job.

However, we're a little confused and wondered if it's faulty?

It has 3 modes within the "power" switch, being "off", "hard floor" and "carpet" marked 0, I, II.

AIUI (from the manual), in position I, the brush is not supposed to rotate whilst in the vacuuming position, for hard floors.

The brush should only kick in at position II.

However our I & II both involve the brush head rotating, just at different speeds.  It goes crazy fast in II and is actually quite hard to manoeuvre on carpet.

The head stops rotating if you stand it up, or pull the wand out (as it should).

What's going on?   Any experience out there?

Cheers
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.56% of current retirement "pot" (as at end January 2025)

Mum and dad just got the same model - IIRC position I is slow rotation, position II is fast rotation... I don't have the manual with me to double check, but theirs functions the same way yours does.

Thanks for that.  This is what the manual shows...

    The online version is different....

That one seems to have a revision date of December 2020.  What's yours?

P.s. Theirs was also difficult to push on carpet to start with - the suction control on the handle helped, and as the filters have started to get clogged it is getting easier still. (until the filters are washed, probably)

This is the back page of our booklet...

So it seems it's the paper booklet that's wrong.    We've definitely got a series 66 (as per the sticker on the VC itself)

At least I know we're not going mad!!!

That looks like 27th May 2020 to me... so an earlier (possibly incorrect) version?

Somewhere in the Shark literature I read that the cleaning head brush (not the pet tool) on the NV602UK wasn't electrically powered at all (just spun by the airflow) - which contradicted almost everything else - so the error in your manual isn't the only place the description doesn't match what's in the box.

Very pleased with the machine though... much lighter than the old Dyson it is replacing.

The troubleshooting page on the online manual doesn't match the machine either.

Read the bit for "vacuum lifts area rugs" !! (Our paper one's the same)

It refers to "suction only cleaning" 😂

Ours is to replace our old Dyson too.

The brush bar will spin on all modes but is only driven by suction in the hard floor mode, switching to carpet mode will engage the motor to drive the brush bar more vigorously.

hmmm, interesting.    I'm wondering (and purely speculating here) that if that is the case, and that in position I the brush isn't actually being driven, but IS rotating under the "draft" of the suction, that Shark had so many complaints and queries like mine (or realised themselves) that the booklet was misleading, and so made the amendment we have seen.

I know one thing, having used it briefly yesterday, is that my wrists are getting a work out!!   In that you have to use a twisting motion on the handle to steer the head, much more than with traditional fixed head vacuum cleaners.   It'd be no good for my arthritic mum!
Although the fact that it is much lighter, and much much quieter are the biggest pluses for me.

I have the same model and the brush bar spins slower in position1 than position 2.
And like you I found the suction so high that I could hardly push it along a carpet, then I discovered the switch on the handle.
