Help with Switching - price cap related

Options
I have just moved into a property that was previously run as a business let - as a result the energy was with SSE who don't offer normal domestic tariffs & only business rates which don't appear to be governed by the price cap. From what I've investigated online, none of the energy companies are taking on new customers at their variable rate within the price cap, & only offering fixed rates that are way way above the price cap, so I'm left with a choice of staying on a rate with SSE that is way above the price cap, or to fix with a different supplier way above the price cap - both of which I can't afford.
Does anyone have any advice as to what I could do to find a supplier that will take me as a new customer on a variable rate that is subject to the price cap? Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the forum.
EDF will take you on as a new customer on the capped SVT, but only if you phone them.

  • Have tried phoning EDF but they still don't want to take me unfortunately. Any other ideas?
    Thank you!

Did they give you a reason why they did not let you join on the SVT?

I assume the problem here is that your property is still listed as commercial property. Did you buy or are you renting?

SSE sold all their residential customers to OVO. Maybe try them?

Didn't OVO sell all their business customers though?
This is probably going to need a switch to a supplier that handles both business and domestic unless it is possible to persuade SSE to get the meter reclassified before they switch.
