Probate timescale 2022

I thought it might be useful to someone to let you know the timescale for my recent probate application. The will wasn’t straightforward in that some parts failed due to the address of the property being bequeathed being an old address where my mum lived when the will was drawn up. My belief was that this could slow things down.
Probate applied by myself online on 1st March 2022, will posted recorded delivery on 4th March, email notification of receipt of the application received 8.11 am today (14th April), email with notification of approval received 10 minutes later!

So from first application to receiving probate took just short of 6 weeks.

Fantastic news. Can you share more details about the complexity of the estate, in addition to the property. Was there IHT to pay?0

That's excellent efficiency. Hope they can keep it up.I'm a retired IFA who specialised for many years in Inheritance Tax, Wills and Trusts. I cannot offer advice now, but my comments here and on Legal Beagles as Sam101 are just meant to be helpful. Do ask questions from the Members who are here to help.0

No IHT due. Her house is held as TIC with hers being the bigger %. The second executor died several years ago. And as I said in my initial post, the address of the property she owned at the time was in the will, as opposed to just ‘my property’, which meant that this part failed. I just put a guesstimate of the value of her house (she had only been living there for 2 years), put NIL for other possessions and another guesstimate for her bank account as the bank wouldn’t disclose that to me until they see the probate certificate! (the person I spoke to at the bank branch did make it obvious when I asked ‘is the balance between 5 and 10 thousand pounds’ by doing a comedy cough and nodding whilst saying she couldn’t divulge that information.propertyhunter said:Fantastic news.
