Posting heavy items

Got some heavy items to put on eBay soon (large text books and curtains/duvet sets) what's the cheapest way to send these? In the past I've used Royal Mail but the cost can be high and me thinks puts off some bidders too, any suggestions?

Well you could state Collection only...

Otherwise I'm thinking DHL or something like that... Perhaps you can post them via your workplace? That way it'll be much cheaper, because your work may send parcels reguarly, and prices drop dramtically as you send more! They'll even pick the package up for you!
  • try parcel2go.com thats what i use when sending heavy items

I haven't tried them, but Staples do a parcel service (DHL, I think) for about £8 per item...

Be warned though that places like parcel2go & parcelnow more often than not just subcontract their deliveries to parcelforce, and if you have had bad experiences with parcelforce you might not be overjoyed to have them picking up your package.

Depending on your location, its amazing how many people are happy to collect items themselves in order to save postage. I drove 200 miles the other week to pick up an item id won for £1, simply because even if i added the diesel cost of doing 200miles, it was a bargin! And similarly my friend has recently sold about 40 large items on ebay, specifying collection only and has had people from all over the UK come and pick them up.
  • i have posted a tv and a pushchaire thru parcel force for a bout £13.95 a time

    i thought this was ok
no trouble with parcelforce at all

Just checked the Royal Mail website and to send a 5kg parcel it costs £8.17 which is much cheaper then what Parcel Force charge (£13.25)

I have never really had any problems with Royal Mail Standard parcel (one lost parcel in 5 years) ..... Then again, when I stand in the queue at the Post Office and see just how poorly some folks parcels are put together, I am never suprised to hear that folk have problems. :)

When im posting stuff i tend to always use royal mail, as its most convenient to me, and at the end of the day, if the buyer is happy to pay the postage then thats fine.
