Put on fixed until 2023 tariff when moving to new home
Options
Hello,
In February I bought a house and established a new British Gas account when moving in. I did not previously have an account with British Gas and I did not transfer an existing account to the new property.
When signing up with BG, I did not agree to or choose any particular tariff. I expected to be placed on its default (ie capped) tariff. However, I have been placed on a tariff that is significantly more expensive than either the pre-April or April-onwards tariff.
Is this standard practice, or should I have been put on the default tariff if I did not expressly choose a fixed plan?

What are the rates for the tariff and what is the name, fixed until?0

A fix taken out in February might not be looking like a bad deal now, or particularly come October...0

The tariff is “Green Future Dec 2023v2” and rates are 7.630p per KWH for gas and 34.512p per kWh for electric. Fix is until 31 Dec 2023.
I did sign up to the account online.
Thanks for all input everyone!0 -
If you signed up online you for sure agreed to the tariff.
It is a bit expensive on the electricity, but gas looks very good, especially for an almost 2 year fix.
I doubt I would try to change it in your case, even if it would be possible.0 -
Welcome to the energy forum👍
It seems you may have lucked out a little those rate whilst more on electricity at the moment may be a good deal long term.
It's a bit of a gamble at the moment as an increase is expected in October and or course that's when you use most of your energy.
Out of interest what are the exit fees if you wanted to cancel as that factors in any decision.0 -
