Cannot open files Windows 10

Options
When I go to File Manager and look at 'documents' the whole list has a grey X over each file and I cannot open them.  Any ideas please.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

The grey x could mean a onedrive sync issue - are you using onedrive ?

it could also be a permissions issue - if you boot in safe mode can you access them ?

Have you tried opening them from within the relevant application? So, for documents, presumably Word, or Adobe Reader?

Have you loaded any new programmes that may interfere. I have Windows Office. When I bought this laptop it had W365 - I loaded various documents when I got it - no problem until I loaded Office at which point I could not access, W365 and Office clashed Removed 365 and everything OK

Thank you everyone now sorted. Pure fluke because it wasn't planned.  It was in fact as you say a One Drive issue. Went into ‘One Drive Personal’  then ‘getting started’ also had the grey X but I managed to open it and the X disappeared.  Then checked all the other files and they were the same…hurrah

I'm glad you got it sorted. I remember someone else having the same problem.
